Rough Copy accepts submissions year-round, and at this time, only via email. We make every attempt to respond within 3 – 6 months, though we do try for sooner.

For written submissions, please paste your work in the body of an email and send to the appropriate address listed below. While it’s imperative that work be sent in the body of an email, please be assured we understand a concern for loss of formatting and will read accordingly.

For art submissions, please email roughcopymag@gmail.com, with either jpegs embedded in the body of the email or a link that opens to an online portfolio or web site.

Send submissions to:

fiction@roughcopy.net
nonfiction@roughcopy.net
poetry@roughcopy.net
roughcopymag@gmail.com (For art submissions and general inquiries:)

We ask that you take the time to familiarize yourself with the work we publish so as to ascertain whether or not you find us a good fit. And while we do accept simultaneous submissions, we ask that you notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere, and we’ll wish you the best of happiness.

Unfortunately, at this time we’re unable to pay our contributors (we’re unpaid, too!), but we do nominate for the Pushcart Prize and the Million Writers Award. We also have had an art show and reading at the downtown Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon, a terrific event that offers exposure and experience and are actively seeking out new venues for future events.

The editors at Rough Copy are writers, too, and know firsthand the leap of faith required to send a stranger your work. We hope you know we’ll treat it with utmost respect, and that even if we happen to turn it down, it will no doubt find its rightful home. We pride ourselves on publishing new and emerging talent, and a lot of other magazines do too. Be brave! Send away.

Rough Copy is a proud member of the Council of Literary Magazines and Presses.
